Einleitung

Nach langer Tragezeit setzt sich Schweiß, Staub und Feuchtigkeit an deiner Uhr ab, sie kann sehr schmutzig sein.

Eventuell sind die Tasten durch Schmutz gestört, sie können leicht gereinigt werden.

Werkzeuge

Schritt 1

Entferne das Armband.
Schalte das Gerät aus.
Entferne die Torx T4 Schrauben von der Vorderseite.

Schritt 2

Entferne die Torx T6 Schrauben auf der Rückseite.

Schritt 3

Nimm das graue bogenförmige Teil oben am Gerät mit einer Pinzette weg.

Schritt 4

Löse den Displaystecker mit einer Pinzette ab.
Entferne das Display.

Schritt 5

Entferne die zwei Kreuzschlitzschrauben #000 am Motherboard.

Schritt 6

Entferne die beiden Schrauben, mit denen der Sensor zwischen den beiden Tasten an der rechten Gehäuseseite befestigt ist.
Nimm eine Pinzette und entferne den Sensor. Löse die Platine vom Gehäuse ab.

Schritt 7

Entferne die Dichtung vom Rand des Uhrgehäuses. Du wirst das Gehäuse oft anfassen und die Dichtung soll nicht kaputt gehen.
Schiebe sehr sorgfältig die kleinen Klemmscheiben an jeder Taste zur Seite ab.
Danach kannst du die Tasten vorsichtig herausholen. Sei wirklich vorsichtig, in jeder Taste befindet sich eine kleine Rückholfeder.

Beware of losing the circlips especially during reinstall. Replacements are $10 USD/50 count. See below.

Reinige das Gehäuse und die Öffnungen für die Tasten.
Reinige die Tasten und die Federn.
Du kannst die Tasten vor dem Einbau eventuell leicht fetten, z.B. mit etwas Silikonfett.
Baue die Uhr wieder zusammen.

I have a 5X that needs the battery replaced. it would be great to add the battery replacement to this guide! any chance you could do this ? I purchased the battery already and am ready to do this. Garmin says too bad too sad my device is "end of life" I simply refuse to believe that. It's a $800 device and although it's old(ish) the only thing wrong is the battery.

What is the best lubricant for the buttons? I'm leaning toward a silicone spray, but that may not be too durable.

I decided on graphite so it won't gum up and can be easily powered in to reapply.

Thanks for that info. In looking at the pictures, I can’t tell which piece is the battery. Do you think it can be easily replaced? Or is it soldered in? Thanks.

Hi,

the battery is visible in the step 5 and step 6.

It is linked to the mainborad with a connector, It’s not soldered.

It’s glued to the back cover but, in my opinion, it can be easy replaced.

The battery type is "361-00097-00"

The nominal specifications are 255mAh, 0.97Wh and 3.8V

Hi,

Yes, I think you can remove only the rear cover.

But if your watch is 2-3 years old, I think that cleaning everything it’s worth it.

Anyone that has done a tear down of Fenix 6? The vibration module is loose and would be good to see if it can be glued back.

Hello, thank you for the article. Is there anyway to clean the button on the motherboard (especially when oxidized)? Some sort of solution or lubricant? I think some seawater snuck into the case (through the button) while pressing the back button under water. I followed your steps to de-assemble the watch and I think the button is somehow stuck, resulting in a kind of random/continuous activity. Thank you. Jacopo

Hi Jacopo,

I suggest cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol. Another solution is to use a mixture of baking soda and water. You can apply the solution using a small paintbrush.

CORRECTION: Buy the 1/16" size! Then, crimp them before fitting them back on the shaft of the button so they are tight.

Kann man die Dichtung wechseln, bzw. neu kaufen? Denn leider ist meine Fenix 5S seit letzten Sonntag undicht. Garmin biete mir keinen Support mehr an und will mir stattdessen eine neue Uhr verkaufen. Es sollte doch möglich sein, die Uhr trocken zu legen und neu abzudichten, oder?
